TOPIC: Tobacco Cessation and Prevention TYPE: Medical Student/Resident Case Reports INTRODUCTION: Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) are often marketed promoted as a "safe alternative" to smoking. This marketing strategy has led many young smokers switching or even starting ENDS use. Traditional smoking is known risk factor for the development of oral candidiasis "thrush." So far, bench research suggested, experts have speculated that electronic could be candidiasis. However, no cases been reported in literature suggest this factor. Here, we present case report young, healthy adult with severe after daily use cigarette vaping past three months. CASE PRESENTATION: an 18-year-old male medical history other than who presented emergency department odynophagia, stomatitis, xerostomia. Patient had failed outpatient therapy antibiotics he was misdiagnosed at urgent care gingivitis, which hospital admission. He denied any inhaled steroids outpatient. On physical exam, purulent discharge on lips associated angular cheilitis noted. white lesions tongue mouth were easily scrapeable revealed pinpoint bleeding. Tonsils not swollen but difficulty swallowing. Mildly enlarged cervical lymph nodes seen CT neck without evidence pharyngeal abscesses. Subsequently based clinical presentation using vaping, diagnosed started intravenous fluconazole, swish spit topical analgesia. negative HIV normal CD4+ count. The rest sexually transmitted infection work up negative. During stay, patient treated fluconazole four days transitioned p.o. antifungal able tolerate intake. discharged six more along E-vaping cessation counseling. records noted complete resolution symptoms two weeks evaluation. DISCUSSION: important it highlights candidiasis, physicians needs aware differential. As become increasingly popular, especially younger patients, healthcare providers must informed better counsel their patients risks benefits use, encourage cessation.
